(WABI-TV5 NEWS) AUGUSTA MAINE – Lawmakers heard from sexual abuse victims Wednesday as they consider forming a task force to raise awareness about the subject.

Representative Joyce Maker proposed the bill that would create a panel to make an appropriate aged based curriculum to help kids identify and report sexual abuse.

That curriculum would establish instruction for kids in grades Kindergarten-5 to help them understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate contact with adults. Maker says lawmakers are on board with her idea, including governor LePage. “In fact we did talk to the governor this morning regarding the coalition between domestic violence and this,” He’s very much in support of doing something and making it happen as he always says.”
